Watching pieces of that show reminded me about doing your due diligence before you buy a boat, or any major purchase for that matter. Do your homework before you buy and consider taking the boat to a local authorized boat repair shop and have them look over the boat motor for you. Spending $100 or so now could save you a lot of money down the road. Once you have a certified mechanic look over your prospective boat make sure you don’t let emotions get the best of you. Getting emotional about your purchase may cause you to wind up with a ‘fixer upper’ when that was not the intention. There is nothing worse than getting excited about taking your new boat out only to find it doesn’t start or runs poorly once you are in the boat and ready to go.
A common place to find damage on boat engines is damage to the lower unit. Damage comes from hitting the gear case on hidden trees and rocks in lakes.
